MobileMonday's Tammisto Nominated for Innovator Awards

Judging by the number of activities going on concurrently around the globe, MobileMonday’s momentum seems to be speeding-up. Recently, MoMo’s global activities have caught the attention of the Finnish business community. Jari Tammisto, CEO of MobileMonday Oy, has been nominated for one of Finland’s business innovator awards, “Uudistajat 2007”. Taloussanomat, one of Finland’s leading business newspaper, is running the awards competition. Winners will be determined by online voting and is open to the general public.

Tammisto’s nomination is based on his work for the MobileMonday global organization, which has already spread to 57 cities worldwide.

Nominees for the awards come from all walks of Finnish business life—from small and large organizations, and from different industries. The nominees compete in three categories—Most influential catalyst Finnish economic discussion, Most Innovative large corporates, Most Innovative SMEs.

Online voting is available at Taloussanomat’s website, and will be in two rounds. The first round will select three finalists per category, and online voting will be open from 27 September to 7 October. The second round which will determine the winners will be open from 8 October to 12 October.

MobileMonday members are invited to VON Europe Spring 2007, the largest gathering of the European IP Communications community to date.

Visitors will hear from some 150 world class speakers as they discuss and debate key issues surrounding ICT's critical technologies including: VoIP, Fixed Mobile Convergence, VoIP Peering, SIP, IPTV, IMS, Enterprise VoIP and IPTV.

Munich: Mobile navigation and location

In 2007 three trends will enable the mobile phone to truly compete with navigation stand-alone devices. MobileMonday Munich will discuss these trends in its April 2 event the renovated Park Cafe in the heart of the city.

The three trends - lower data tariffs rates, GPS integrated mobile phones and enough processor power for a great user experience – gain additional power from Nokia and Motorola pushing forward to position themselves in this market thus raising awareness.

Another trend makes this industry interesting to those working in the content and mobile marketing business. This year navigation and location service providers are mounting new content on top of their services. Helsinki: Mobile TV – full speed ahead

Finland’s broadcast mobile TV is stuck in the quagmire of copyright dispute but the rest of mobile TV is moving ahead at full speed. Finnish operators are working together with the major TV channels to deliver on-demand-mobile TV over mobile phone networks.

The Finnish mobile industry is working on bringing internet-style interactivity to mobile TV.

On April 2nd MobileMonday Helsinki will look at today’s mobile TV. The Ericsson sponsored and Andre Chaker MC’d evening will have the following speakers:

Barcelona: Mobile gaming becomes more mobile

On April 2 MobileMonday Barcelona will discuss the current state of the mobile gaming industry. The future of mobile gaming seems to rely on new types of gameplays that embed the new capabilities of mobile phones to sense their context.

Mobile devices become sensitive to movements (e.g. Nokia N5500), engaging players to physically move as part of the gameplay.

Currently, the mobile game market is highly dominated by games that have an easy gameplay, few simple rules and do not require special skills to enjoy. These games are mostly clones of successful casual games such as Minesweeper or Tetris.

In addition, the emergence near-field communication (RFID, Bluetooth, QR codes) and location-aware technologies enable new types of scenarios that link virtual worlds with the players’ physical surroundings.

The speakers will be: Nicolas Nova (Switzerland) - researcher at EPFL (Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Lausanne; Maarten Noyons (France) - Managing Director, International Mobile Gaming Awards; Ignacio Cavero (Spain) - President and CEO, LemonQuest; and a speaker, to be confirmed, from YDreams, Spain/Portugal.

Kiev: The first 3G network in Ukraine

The event is titled: “The Launch of the First 3G Network in Ukraine. Innovative Services”.

St. Petersburg: Forum Nokia

The St. Pete MobileMonday will learn all about Forum Nokia, what it is, how it functions and what in can offer local developers.

The next MobileMonday St. Petersburg meeting will be held on March 19, 7-9 p.m.

Hemant Madan, Director Forum Nokia EMEA, will an overview of Forum Nokia and explain how the Forum can help in getting applications the market.

Seppo Oksa will discuss the technologies one can develop on Nokia platform and Matti Antila talk about the tools of Nokia platform.

The location of the meeting is A.S.Popov Central Museum of Communications, Pochtamtskiy pereulok 4 (entrance in the middle of the block, between Pochtamtskaya str. & Yakubovicha str.), in the very heart of St. Petersburg, near the St Isaac’s Square.
