MoMo Dublin’s submission for MobileMonday Mobile Peer Awards 2009

Hi everyone,

Just a quick note to say that Dial2Do have been put forward as the nomination of MoMo Dublin for the MoMo Peer Awards in Barcelona this year. The final winners will be decided on February 16th as part of Mobile World Congress 2009 (née 3GSM). The nominations from the other MoMo chapters can be found on the main peer awards site: http://www.mobilepeerawards.com/

Due to an unexpected deadline for submission we didn’t have time to run a proper public poll for this. The winner was chosen from the 3 nominations (3G Doctor, Locle & Dial2Do) by a number of colleagues and the decision was more or less unanimous. I apologise for not having held a public poll for this but by the time I found out about the final submission deadline it was far too late.

Congratulations Rococo and commiserations to the other entrants.

MoMo Peer Awards 2009 & new hosts for MoMoDublin

Hi folks,

Last year, we voted Sentry Wireless as our local nomination to go through to the Mobile Monday Global Peer Awards - to compete against the best mobile startups from around the world.

This year, the event is again at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona in February.

There’s an on-line nomination process. If you’d like to be considered as an entrant for the awards you basically need to register here.

You’ll have a chance to submit some information about your company, a pitch, a slide show or a video. I’m assured by Locle that it’s easy enough! The selection process will then take place in the New Year.

And in other news… after almost two years of organising the MoMoDublin, I’m going to hand over the reins. My colleagues Ronan Cremin and Claire O’Gorman will be your hosts for future events, and I’m sure
there will be an exciting programme for 2009.

I’ve had a lot of fun starting and growing the MoMoDublin community and organising the events. It’s become a great community and one that I hope continues to grow over the coming years.

I hope to see you all again soon & have a great Christmas and New Year!

Mobile Monday – November 17th – Location-Based Services & Social Networks

Hi all,

This month’s Mobile Monday Dublin is next Monday, 17th November. Our topic is “Location-Based Services & Mobile Social Networks“.

This is something that Irish companies seem to do particularly well. Personally I think it has something to do with the amount of time we all spend stuck in Dublin traffic.

Anyway, we start at 6:30 for 7:00pm, and this time we’re upstairs at The Odeon, Harcourt Street. Our esteemed speakers are as follows:

LocleRonan Higgins & Pieter Oonk
http://locle.com
We kick off with two of Dublin’s own mobile & location based social networking experts. They’ll be discussing LBS in general, and their own implementation, ”as featured in the Sunday Times”.

JustRoutes - Dave Rooney
http://justroutes.com
Dave will discuss the company’s online & mobile travel planner for Dublin. Definitely born out of too many traffic jams.

RateMyArea - Mike Brennan
http://ratemyarea.com
Describing and demonstrating a cool new service that lets you review, share and discuss local businesses whilst mobile.

Wubud - Ewan Spence
http://wubud.com
Our grand finale from Paul Walsh’s still-stealth mobile social networking startup - not to mention the inimitable Mr Spence.

Folks, with this line up, this is set to be an fantastic evening, and I welcome you all to hear these local luminaries :-)

As ever, Mobile Monday Dublin is totally free - your only obligation is to let us know you’re coming, so that we can plan refreshment accordingly. Do so by mailing us at nov08@momodub.com or by leaving a comment on the blog below.

This is likely to be our final event of 2008, and let’s go out with a bang! Spread the word, bring a friend or two, and we’ll see you all next week.

MobileMonday – Events in November

A couple of events for the MobileMonday community this autumn.

Digital Island Meetup

This week, Digital Media Island are having an event in conjunction with Microsoft’s launch of a new programme for startups. There will be a couple of local mobile startups there, so please come and give them your support. (And I believe there are free demo spots available for others too)

These meetups (nee TechLudd) are always excellent.

The event starts at 6:30 this Thursday at Four Seasons Hotel in Ballsbridge. More details and sign-up here

Mobile Monday, November 17th

We’re back to the usual Mobile Monday format later in the month, with a dedicated event covering “Location Based Services (and Mobile Social Networking)”. For good reason, this is an exciting area of mobile application development.

This seems to be something that Ireland is good at too. We’ll have Locle, JustRoutes, and Wubud all talking about the opportunities in this space, and demoing their platforms.

Venue to be confirmed (when we’ll start taking sign-ups). But in the meantime please pencil in your diaries for 17th November.

Mobile Monday Dublin, 29th September 2008

Hi all,

After our very successful Mobile Monday barbeque with the MMA in the summer, I would like to announce that we’ll be holding our next event the evening of the 29th September.

Often neglected (although they continue to be the major economic engine of the industry), we will be looking at Voice Services, and how they are quietly evolving just as intriguingly as the data services that steal all the headlines.

Our speakers include:

  • Catherine Hegarty http://o2.ie
The Product Manager for Post-Pay Consumer Voice will cover trends in services and usage, particularly in Ireland, from an operator’s perspective
  • Andrew Fuller http://voxpilot.com
CTO of Dublin’s VoxPilot on what’s happening in the industry regarding IVR, video IVR and standardization
  • Pat Phelan http://maxroam.com & http://twitterfone.com
Demo session from Cubic Telecom entrepreneur, and renowned Cork blogger

As ever, we try to put on a good social event too, and we’ll have plenty of time for food and drink afterwards.

Drinks are very kindly sponsored by Tiger Beer.

Venue-wise, we liked the Odessa Club so much last time that we’re there again (it’s 13 Dame Court, Dublin). Drinks from 6:30pm, presentations start at 7:00pm sharp.

We do have a reasonable cap on numbers (which we hit last time), so please make sure you register as soon as possible to let us know you’re coming. You can register by mailing us directly at sept08@momodublin.com, or by leaving a comment below with your name and email address.

Looking forward to seeing you all again there!

Midsummer MMMMAdness

Hello everyone. We are very excited to announce our next event!

and

bring you…

Midsummer MMMMAdness: a sunny summer’s evening of mobile discussion, conviviality and networking - not to mention barbeque - in Dublin.

Mobile Monday Dublin is teaming up with the Mobile Marketing Association here in Ireland. (”MM-MMA-dness” - geddit?) And this, our first joint event, is set for Monday June 30th, starting at 6:30pm.

We’re holding it in the recently refurbished roof garden of the Odessa Club, 13 Dame Court, Dublin. The event is extremely kindly supported by our two sponsors, Vodafone and Tiger Beer.

The theme of the evening will be “Mobile Advertising“, and will feature brief presentations from our guest speakers. Helping us understand this exciting landscape (advertising, that is - not the rooftops of Temple Bar), will be Chris Handley, Head of Mobile Internet and Advertising at Vodafone; Eamon Hession of Púca and MMA; and James Pearce of dotMobi and Mobile Monday.

All followed by the Odessa’s delicious roof top barbeque, and the sponsors’ hospitality!

Entry is free, and the evening is set to be a highly lively and informative one. So places are strictly limited to the first 100 to register. To ensure your place, please leave a comment below with your name, or email us at midsummer.mmmmadness@momodub.com

See you there!

James, Claire & Eamon

The Christmas Do, 10th December

I hope you didn’t think we would miss out on an opportunity for a little seasonal festivity!

When: Monday 10th December, 6:30 for 7:00
What: Bob Last and Chris Moisan, Taptu
Where: The Porterhouse, 16-18 Parliament Street
http://www.porterhousebrewco.com/templebar.html

We’re thrilled to be able to hear about mobile search from Taptu (http://taptu.com/ and http://taptu.com/blog/).

Taptu has been hot news in mobile this year, and the service has had rave reviews in such illustrious places as the Scoble Show, WAP Review, and Mobile2.0. Now they’re coming to a pub near you!

So… if you thought that the mobile version of the search game was wrapped up already, come and hear Bob and Chris dispel a few assumptions. Mobile’s a little different, right?

They’re also providing the sponsorship, so there will be plenty of food, drink, and Christmas cheer to go around. Bring a friend :-)

As usual, we need to know numbers. Please either register at http://uk.groups.yahoo.com/group/momodublin/surveys?id=2616864 or mail me off list (especially if you are bringing a guest).

See you there!
