MoMo Islamabad – Feb. 7th – DWP Technologies

Mobile Monday event was held on 4th February’ 2013 and about 50 participants attended this event. Mr. Yousuf from CAST department started the proceedings by giving an introduction and background of Mobile Monday.

Our guest speaker for the event was Mr. Murad Khan, Senior Network Engineer from DWP technologies. The topic of discussion was concept of MPLS, its features, benefits and main architecture components. Later on he answered the queries from different students and also discussed the opportunities of internships for COMSATS students.

The event concluded with the vote of thanks from Mr. Khurram Saleem Alamgeer.

MoMo Islamabad – Dec. 3rd – Welcome Huawei

Mobile Monday event was held on 3rd December 2012, at CIIT Islamabad campus. About 100 participants attended this event. Mr. Faisal Ameer Malik CTO and his team of experts from Huawei came to the event.

Mr. Tariq Mahmood, Product Manager of Huawei, gave presentation on GPON network. He and also shared the different activities they are doing around the globe. Students from EE and Physics department had an interactive session.

Mr. Faisal Malik, CTO of Huawei, appreciated the idea of Mobile Monday and asked his team to take part in future events. He also agreed to participate if CIIT could hold a job fair in order to generate job and Internship opportunities for students of CIIT.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks to Huawei.

MoMo Islamabad – Nov. 5th – IDEAS Event Winners

The Mobile Monday event was held on 5th November 2012 at CIIT Islamabad campus as per schedule. Around 100 participants including students, faculty and representatives from ZONG & HUAWEI also attended the event. The chief guest of this month’s event was worthy Rector, Dr. S.M. Junaid Zaidi. Dr. Shahid A Khan, Dr. Shahzad Malik, Dr. Raja Ali Riaz and Muhammad Raza Ahmad Khan, Senior Manager of ORIC were also present at the event.

The main objective of this month’s event was to present a platform for the IDEAS event winners to share their ideas with the faculty, student and industry representatives. The IDEAS event was organized by ORIC in January 2012. Second part of the event was prize distribution for the winning participants of IDEAS society.

The event started with the presentations from IDEAS winners which included ‘An Intelligent Fire Escape and Detection System’ by Dr. Majid Iqbal Khan, ‘Online Mandi’ by Mr. Ali Shahid and ‘Solar Energy Solutions’ by Ms. Iqra Nazir. A team of COMSATS recently won 3rd prize in INVENT 2012 organized by IBA Karachi. Their representative Mr. Danish Shinwari presented his project idea of “Skill Quest” A platform for providing on hand experience to graduating students.

IDEAS society is being managed by Mr. Ahsan Malik of Electrical engineering department. He gave a Video presentation about the different activities they organized during the student’s week.

After the event’s presentations, prize distribution for the winners of IDEAS event and the participants of IDEAS society was held. Worthy Rector, Dr. S.M. Junaid Zaidi presented the cheques to IDEAS event winners and certificates & shields to the winners of IDEAS society. He appreciated the efforts of all the participants and encouraged the audience to take part in these activities, especially in the next year’s IDEAS event.

The event was concluded by the vote of thanks from Dr. Mahmood Ashraf. He expressed his gratitude for worthy Rector, Dr. Shahid A Khan, Dr. Shahzad Malik, Dr. Raja Ali Riaz, Muhammad Raza Ahmad Khan and other respectable guests including representatives from ZONG and HUAWEI for the participation in the event.

MoMo Islamabad – Oct. 1st – New Product Development

Mobile Monday event was held on 1st October 2012 at CIIT Islamabad campus as per schedule. Around 100 participants including students, faculty and Senior managers from ZONG and Mobilink also attended the even. The main objective of this month’s event was “Issues related to New product development”.

Mr. Atif Abdul Majeed started the event by giving an introduction to New Product Development. He then invited Mr. Jibran a CIIT alumnus, working in Mobilink Pakistan in International Business Development Department.

Mr. Jibran further elaborated the concept of New Product Development relating to his work experience at Mobilink and previously at Huawei Pakistan. He candidly discussed his career growth and provided many intuitive ideas to the Telecom Engineering students.

After a Question Answer session with Mr. Jibran, the session was concluded by a vote of thanks from Mr. Atif Abdul Majeed.

MoMo Islamabad – July 9th – at CIIT Islamabad

The Mobile Monday (MoMo) event has been scheduled on Monday 9th July, 2012 at Seminar Hall, Academic block I, CIIT Islamabad Campus. The program will start at 3 PM. Faculty/Students from Academia and Experts from Industry are invited to attend this event.

MoMo Islamabad – Post May 7th Event Report

Mobile Monday event was held on 7th May, 2012 at CIIT Islamabad campus as per schedule. Around 120 participants including students and faculty from NUST, APCOMS and CIIT Islamabad attended the event. The main objective of this month’s event was an introduction of wi-tribe bazaar among the students community.

Muhammad Yousuf Khan described the background and history of Mobile Monday and briefly gave a presentation about the activities done so far under this platform. Mr Atif abdul Majeed from R&D Lab described the research and development activities of his lab and also gave a snapshot of some of their projects like COMSCAN(Super fast OMR), Electronic Voting Machine, Data Logger and Remotely monitored & controlled LED lights. He emphasized that there is a lot of potential in the students to develop distinctive projects in the related fields of ICT.

Mr. Zohare Haider from wi-tribe described the background and current state of wi-tribe company and presented the idea of Wi-tribe bazaar (Pakistan’s 1st ‘Buy’ & ‘Sell’ online software bazaar). He said that the intention of wi-tribe bazaar is to support, encourage and proliferate the local IT industry and software developers in particular. Later on, Mr. Ali Fahad and Mr. Luqman Arshad from wi-tribe also joined the discussion and explained that wi-tribe bazaar is a non exclusive platform for software developers where they can share their projects and can sell them to the interested customers. wi-tribe Bazaar is powered by wi-tribe scratch cards, allowing the purchase of software through scratch cards available at over 600 locations throughout Karachi, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore and Faisalabad. wi-tribe bazaar is also organizing Pakistan developers’ challenge which is a software development competition. They concluded the discussion by thanking Mobile Monday for inviting them and appreciated the efforts made by this platform for organizing activities related to telecommunications and particularly mobile devices.

The session was concluded by a vote of thanks from Mr. Shahid Ansari, head of Technology Incubation Center. He expressed his gratitude for wi-tribe’s participation in this month’s event. wi-tribe team then visited Modeling & Simulation and Antenna Design labs and appreciated the advanced level facilities provided by COMSATS to its students.

MoMo Islamabad – May 7th – Meet wi-tribe Bazaar

The Mobile Monday (MoMo) event has been scheduled on 7th May’ 2012 at Seminar Hall, Academic block I, CIIT Islamabad Campus. The program will start at 3 PM.

Senior Managers from wi-tribe will be presenting their newly launched “wi-tribe Bazaar” which is Pakistan’s first online ‘Buy and Sell’ software bazaar. They will discuss the concept of wi-tribe Bazaar with CIIT students and need participation in terms of project ideas. Students from FAST university are also invited to attend the event and involve in Mobile Monday activities in future.

MoMo Islamabad – April 2nd – Report: 3G in Pakistan

Mobile Monday event was held on 2nd April, 2012 at CIIT Islamabad campus as per schedule. Around 50 Students and Faculty members from Electrical Engineering and Mathematics department attended the event. Mr. Syed Yasir Imtiaz from CAST department shared his ideas about the importance of 3G technology and its need in Pakistan’s telecom market. He emphasised that after the 3G licensing, there will be more business opportunities in the Telecom sector. Mr. Muhammad Hassan Khan from Computer Science department gave a presentation about Mobile application development and also discussed about the achievements and activities of Comsats Mobile Application Development (CMad) lab created in Computer Science department.

The program concluded with some closing remarks from Mr. Wille Eerola. He appreciated the role of COMSATS for promoting Mobile Monday in Pakistan on such regular basis since its launch back in 2010. He also urged the students to play their part in the growth of Mobile phone industry in Pakistan by participating in the Mobile Monday event as it is a good platform for generating new ideas for the development of mobile applications.

The participants highly appreciated the presentations and participated actively in the interactive sessions. The event ended with the vote of thanks to the participants and they were served with refreshments later on.

MoMo Islamabad – March 5th – Mobile Gaming

The Mobile Monday (MoMo) event has been scheduled on Monday 5th March, 2012 at Seminar Hall, Academic block I, CIIT Islamabad Campus. The program will start at 3 PM. The theme for this MoMo meeting is “Mobile Gaming”. Faculty/Students from Academia and Experts from Industry are invited to attend this event.

MoMo Islamabad Feb. 20th – at CIIT Wah Campus

MoMo event was held on 20th February, 2012 at CIIT Wah campus as per schedule. Around 100 Students and Faculty members from Electrical Engineering and Computer Science departments attended this event. Members of MoMo team as well as undergraduate students of CIIT Wah campus presented their ideas and research projects at the event. The participants highly appreciated the presentations and participated actively in discussions. The senior faculty and the industry representatives regarded the projects as highly promising for society and gave their valuable feedback for further improvements.

The program concluded with an interactive session lead by Dr. Mahmood Ashraf that emphasised on brainstorming research ideas among young students for their Final Year Projects. The participants of the event appreciated the initiative of MoMo platform for linkage between academia and industry. Dr. Mahmood Ashraf also proposed to establish a Mobile Application group at CIIT Wah Campus on the same footing as in Islamabad Campus.

The event ended with the vote of thanks to the administration of CIIT Wah for providing facility to hold MoMo Event. Director of Wah campus Dr. Tayyeb Akram appreciated the efforts of the MoMo team and stressed his faculty for future coordination in this regard.
