MoMo Manila – June 24th – Mobile on the Breakthrough

It’s June and once again we’ll be having our meetup at the office of Lowe Philippines! Check out our speakers for the meetup:

  • Martin Cu (Head of Offline Marketing for ZALORA Philippines) will be discussing app marketing and what they’ve learened from their recently successful marketing launch for the ZALORA app that achieved a top 2 ranking on day of launch.
  • Ben Wintle (Founder of Duets) will be sharing their experiences making Duets. Duets is the first ever turn-based karaoke app for the iPhone that lets friends from across the globe belt out their favorite tunes to each other. It became the top local music app shortly after its launch in the App Store.
  • Iain Jamieson (Visa Country Manager for the Philippines and Guam) will be sharing Visa’s vision for mobile payments in the Philippines.

As usual we have free drinks and food waiting for you. You also get to hob not with everyone else before, in between, and after the talks.

MoMo Manila – July 16th – mHealth and NFC

Hello everyone!

We’re back with another month of mobile knowledge! This month we will be talking about mobile health and near field technology.

Mobile Health (mHealth) will be discussed by Sergio Arroyo, Founder and CEO of Ascendant Technologies. His company has been providing information technology solutions to the medical industry since 2003.

Near Field Communications (NFC) will be discussed by Charo Nuguid, one of Mobile Monday Manila’s co-founders. She is also a consultant for training and development in Java and Android technologies.

While we only have two topics for the night, we will have several people giving their five-minute pitches to introduce their new mobile projects, services and activities. If you’re interested in taking advantage of the three-minute pitch, just let us know at mobilemondaymanila@gmail.com.

As usual, there will be free drinks and food. Feel free to mingle with everyone else during the meeting as well.

Please note the dress code in the German Club: no short pants, flip-flops or slippers!

MoMo Manila – Feb 6th – Mobile Trends and Insights 2012

It's the month of February! And with that we also begin our first meeting for 2012. So, what's up us in the year of the dragon? That's what we'll be talking about.

Our theme for this evening is Mobile Trends and Insights 2012. We will be discussing TOP-OF-THE-PYRAMID statistics on the current Mobile ecosystem and what trends might happen in 2012. Afterwhich Globe Telecom, the World Food Programme, and Ayala Foundation will be sharing their insights on using mobile technology at the BOTTOM-OF-THE-PYRAMID especially since Philippines is NOT a smartphone country.

Leigh Reyes (President and Chief Creative Officer, Lowe Philippines) will start the meeting with an overview of our topic for the night.

Rob Nazal (Corporate Social Responsibility, Globe Telecom) will then present how mobile innovations can be a game changer for the bottom of the pyramid.

Mario Deriquito (Director, Ayala Foundation) will be discussing how the mobile solution Text2Teach is making an impact on education.

We hope to have Stephen Anderson (Country Representative, World Food Programme) in our meeting to introduce to us Conditional Cash Transfer. We also hope Gonzalo Plaza (BridgeIT Program Manager) will join us to share what he has learned in implementing mobile education in Chile.

In this month of hearts, we intend to start this year as a socially-aware mobile community. We look forward to seeing you on February 6, 2012, 7pm-9pm at the Corporate Showroom, Valero Telepark, 111 Valero St., Salcedo Village, Makati City.

We’re nearing the end of the year, boys and girls! The MoMo Manila team has decided to take a Christmas break this December. But before we do, let’s all celebrate Christmas a bit early and look back on the great first half we’ve had!

So we are inviting you to our Christmas party on November 28, 2011. We’ll be back at the German Club with no other agenda but to have fun.  We’ll be giving a short rundown on what we as a community have achieved in 2011.  We’re inviting back our first Mobile Bayani awardees to hand them their trophies.  We’ll have games and prizes. Of course, we still have free beer and food to go around!

MoMo Manila – 19 Sept – The Mobile Internet

It’s September! This month we’ll be talking all about the mobile Internet. We will have speakers talking about local efforts to get a grip on how to measure your reach into the vast universe of the mobile Internet, the cool products running on the mobile Internet and the state of the mobile Internet in the Philippines.

Confirmed speakers of the night are:

Ms. Eiko Raquel, Business Development Manager of  Yahoo Philippines, will share with us her insights on mobile surfing behavior around apps and browser.

Ms. Edna Belleza, CIO of GMA NMI,  will give us an update on the latest developments on online and mobile reach measurement, driven by a consortium of local publishers.

Ms. Patricia Mulles, CEO of ThumbMob,  will talk about their latest product Vuclip, bringing mobile video services to the masses.

We are also opening the floor to individuals or groups who want to pitch an idea to the MoMo community. As usual, we are allotting only a few minutes for this, so please let us know beforehand!

MoMoManila this September will be at the Microsoft office (16/F 6750 Ayala Office Tower, 6750 Ayala Ave., Makati City) on September 19, 2011, 7PM to 9:00PM.

MoMo Manila – Aug. 22 – 1st Mobile Bayani Awards!

August has come and we’re ready to honor our industry heroes in The 1st Mobile Bayani Awards! You nominated them and we picked the top three among them. There were some nominees that we expected to see on the list. But boy were we surprised to find some unknown gems that made a difference! See the people and organizations we will be honoring as our first Mobile Bayanis!

Aside from the awards, we will also be having speakers from the International Game Developers Association – Manila Chapter who will be discussing the state of mobile gaming in the Philippines.

As usual, will be giving you a chance to mingle and network with all the other attendees. In fact, we encourage you to meet as many as you can! We’re glad to know that MobileMonday Manila has become a place where new partnerships between companies have been forged.

MoMo Manila Announces Mobile Bayani Awards

The 1st Mobile Bayani Awards aim to acknowledge the three Filipino individuals, companies or non-profit organizations that made an indelible footprint in our local mobile space.  These are the heroes who have made the most impact on the local mobile scene.  Some may never have even been properly recognized for their contributions.

From now until August 12, 2011, MobileMonday Manila will be accepting nominations for the 1st Mobile Bayani Awards.  Anyone may nominate an individual, company or non-profit organization as a Mobile Bayani. Winners will be awarded at the Aug. 15th Aug. 22nd MoMo Manila meeting.

MoMo Manila – July 18th – Pay It Forward

It’s July folks!  Finally the wet season is here!  There’s a mighty good chance that there’ll be rain during this month’s Mobile Monday meeting.  But hopefully rain on our meeting means wealth that is coming!

Speaking of wealth, this month we’ll be touching on mobile payments.   The meeting will be held on July 18, 2011, 7pm to 9pm at the German Club in Makati City.

We have invited guest speakers who will enlighten us regarding the laws governing local mobile payments as well as how mobile banking has changed the lives of people locally.

Besides some interesting presentations, we will also have time to mingle and network with everyone.  

We’re also opening the floor to people who wish to give a five-minute pitch about the mobile product, services, or needs.  If you are interested to give a pitch, do get in touch with us for more information.  Your talk does not have to be in line with the topic of the night.  Just make sure it deals with the mobile space.
