National Summit and KUDOS Award 2009

Munich, December 4th, 2009

The best thing overall is, that not too much has to be written as almost everything is well documented on videos, photos and stored PDFs*** from all keynote speakers.

So this is more a blog post to describe the atmosphere of the event.

As every year the MobileMonday organizers put most attention to this year-end event. For the 2nd consecutive year the event took place in Munich (Note: In 2010 it will be Berlin - November 29!).

In contrary to former national events the organizers tried not to have a countless amount of speakers and speeches, but concentrated on one topic mainly "Our Mobile Future".

At 2pm the Telekom Ten Towers cafeteria still looked a bit aseptic, but two hours later it was transformed in an inspiring conference atmosphere. The lack of WiFi seems always to be a big problem still in Germany at each and every convent.

198 attendees had registered, but subtracting some minor "no shows" and adding some pre-unregistered guests MobileMonday Germany assumes to had an audience around 200.

In the opening speech some mobile devices sponsored by HTC could be won:

The national summit started with a keynote from Lars C Weisswange (HTC) who gave an introduction into the "Outernet". Well, this can really become a buzzword soon:

Nick Sohnemann from TrendOne, Hamburg really dived into the year 2021. Despite his motivating keynote and the many, possible transformations he could imagine, I'm not so keen to really get "all" of this:

Gerd Leonhard, a media futurist gave a deep insight into Social Media and its not that difficult challenges to manage in order to re-establish a worthwile ecosystem:

The following panel suffered a bit of attention after so many new insights. If you attended, but got already a bit exhausted, here it is:

After a refreshing break in the nice atmosphere of Telekom Ten Towers, the KUDOS Award ceremony started. And by intention, the ceremony was kept short and to the point.

The audience award, voted in the last weeks on HORIZONT.net went to Softgames for their mobile site Crime City.

The jury award was given to Deutsche Post, which was realized by YOC:

More about the KUDOS Award, which is in contrary to the all-English MobileMonday spirit a German award can be read here at INTERNETWORLD BUSINESS or at MobileMonday's partner HORIZONT here.

At around 8pm the networking part with a great buffet started:

More photo impressions can be found here.

After the great food the 'party people' continued in Telekom Ten Towers 14th floor Sky Lounge above Munich:

A great event finished around midnight, when the first wet snow flakes started to fall from heaven.
Merry Christmas - mobilists!

Mobile Web and more…

The Mobile Web is 10 years old. It started to surface in 1999. First with the incredible success of i-mode in Japan and later with the introduction of the Nokia 7110 (do you remember it?) in Europe. It was the time of the big hype and some of us were already getting ready to rise to the occasion by developing ideas ourselves, offering to advise start-ups, or even making investments.

So where do we stand today – 10 years later – with applications flooding the mobile space? Time for a reality check…

- Which trends are defining the Mobile Web space?
- How does a mobile operator see the future of the mobile web and how does it build sustainable competitive advantage?
- How do media companies use the mobile web? When do apps work better than “just” a mobile web site?
- What is the latest news about mobile email and the mobile web seen from the perspective of the largest German provider?
- How does mobile advertising work? How can I promote my iPhone apps?

Check out this fantastic line-up and be prepared for some keen debate with:
Georg Schweighofer, Qualcomm: “What Trends Shape the Mobile Internet?”
Sarah Heldt, Telefónica o2 Germany: “Anything. Anytime. Anywhere. o2’s mobile portal” (to be confirmed)
Stephen Strubel, SevenOne Intermedia: “Mobile Web in a TV World – Engaging Users on the Third Screen”
Jürgen Schaub, WEB.DE GmbH: “Outlook after 2 Years of Experience”
Vince Staybl, Gofresh: “Mobile Social Web: User, Cash and Service. Survey & Showcase itsmy.com”
Russell Buckley, MobHappy: “Promoting iPhone Applications”

Plus the very finest mobile networking and the unofficial 10 years after birthday party with DJ Montano, Gofresh, (thanks a lot for your support) at the turntable!

Time: October 12, 2009 from 6pm to 11pm

Mobile Automotive

Event Description

For our March meeting, we turn the spotlight on mobile on the move – in the automotive industry.
Mobile communications in cars are nothing new – but with the latest generation of luxury models, a web browser is built in, using wireless communications to fully integrate the internet superhighway with the highway.
At MobileMonday, we’ll be trying to find out what people really like about in-car web browsing. Is it all about interactive routing to avoid traffic jams and even pre-booking parking spaces in public garages? How will mobile technology help put people on the move in the driver’s seat? What kind of ecosystems do the car manufacturers foresee to service the drivers and passengers in the near future?
At the March meeting of MobileMonday Munich, sponsored by Materna and the Canadian Consulate Munich, we will be taking a dive into the automotive mobile technologies of today and tomorrow under the title “Mobile Service & the Automotive Industry”.

Open Mobile Web & IIR’s Converged Messaging Summit

Dear MobileMonday Business Partners & Friends,

we invite you to another exciting MobileMonday event. This time in cooperation with IIR’s Converged Messaging Congress (details & discount see below!!!)

For event details (esp. location and time) & RVSP booking, please see above

MobileMonday Speaker’s Details

Steve Ives – CEO and Founder of Taptu
Taptu vision is to be a super-fast entertainment search engine for mobile. It offers users the opportunity to find all sorts of cool stuff like music, videos, images and lots more – all made perfectly for mobile. And then make it easy to share with others.

Steve will be telling more about the Taptu story, how mobile search differs from online search and why there’s room in this market for a successful startup.

Scott Beaumont – CEO and Founder of Mippin

Previous MoMo’ers might remember hearing about Mobizines, Mippin’s previous reincarnation. Mobizines offered publishers a way to mobilize their sites via a downloadable Java application. However, progress was slow until a complete change of strategy led the company to abandon the application route and invest in a mobile web solution.

Scott will be sharing these valuable lessons.

Andy Smith – European Sales Director of AdMob

AdMob has gone from new kid on the block to successful mobile advertising player in the last 2 1/2 years and recently served its 40 Billionth ad on the mobile web. Andy will be sharing information about the market in Germany, but also talking about AdMob’s free analytics package that was recently launched. This gives both advertisers and publishers a whole range of tools to track user behaviour on their mobile websites and with their mobile web campaigns.

IIR’s Converged Messaging

IIR is delighted to offer MobileMonday Munich members an exclusive 2 for the price of 1 offer on delegate passes. The event has loads of networking opportunities, panel discussions, roundtables and of course plenty of case studies including a detailed analysis of Disruptive Business Models from leading VC player Jean Schmitt, Managing Director of Sofinnova Partners. Other key contributions include:
