Mobile Contactless Payment

2nd MobileMonday Taipei Mobile Contactless Payment

Momentum behind the contactless payment market is set to grow substantially over the next 5 years as JCB, MasterCard and Visa drive schemes into the market that aim to get consumers to substitute tap and go contactless solutions for low value cash payments. With handset vendors BenQ and Nokia integrating contactless payment functionality onto terminals, and a series of regional mobile phone based contactless payment trials already happening all over the world, the prospects for proximity payment from the mobile phone are becoming brighter. While technology issues and uncertainties around business models between operators, payment networks and banks will act to slow momentum, Strategy Analytics forecasts that mobile phone based contactless payments will facilitate over $36 billion of worldwide consumer spending by 2011. The second MobileMonday Taipei will discuss the latest development of Mobile Contactless payment, as well as how it works in Japan, and the pilots in Taiwan.
