Dawn of The Mobilista
We are proud to announce today the official birth of Mobile Monday Amsterdam. MoMo Amsterdam is founded by Raimo van der Klein, Principal Innovation Manager at KPN, Yuri van Geest, Independent Internet advisor and Maarten Lens-FitzGerald, Director new formats and Strategist at RapidSugar. Within one month, we, the Amsterdam team built our organisation, arranged partners and found some great speakers to kick-off our first session on the 4th of June in Amsterdam.
The landscape of mobile internet has changed drastically due to the success of the internet with the Personal Computer, the rise of web 2.0 and the many innovations in the field of mobile telephony and mobile internet. Mobile market opportunities are on the rise as a result of higher bandwidth (WiFi, UMTS, HSDPA, WiMax, DVB-H, 4G) fixed feel mobile internet packages, sophisticated mobile end-user devices, broader and deeper content as well as better applications. Mobile marketing, mobile advertising, GPS, location based services, mobile TV, social networks, mobile webscasting, RFID and mobile payments are only some examples in this region. At the same time, however, there is technical and commercial fragmentation in the mobile internet sector. In a word, there are many opportunities and little collaboration. To resolve this we felt the need to organize a "get together". Hence the birth of Mobile Monday Amsterdam.
With MobileMonday Amsterdam participants have the opportunity to build and enhance their mobile expertise in a relaxed informal and innovative and interactive way including a Jaiku backchannel. Every month we will focus on a different mobile topic in a forum where attendees are encouraged to actively participate with speakers who will focus on both the practical and theorhetical aspects of the mobile industry. There is fixed format for every event which will allow for a unique mobile perspective and a how-to case study. MobileMonday is an open Platform and is accessible to everyone free of charge
The theme for our first session is Magic 2.0 and how "the mobile wand" makes us resemble wizards creating their own wished worlds. Speakers at the first event will be:
Petteri Koponen (CEO of Jaiku) to talk about Social Peripheral Vison and Presence Messaging
Dennis Hettema (Founder, OP3) to talk about the how 2D barcodes offer a bridge to different unseen dimensions
