The future of Windows Marketplace for Mobile
Taipei Microsoft plans to launch an App Store that lets Windows Mobile users find, purchase, and download programs directly from the phones. It’ll work much like the iPhone App Store and the upcoming BlackBerry App World. Microsoft will take a 30% cut on the sales of any paid applications. That’s the same fee that Apple charges, although Research in Motion keeps just 20%. Although Windows Marketplace will only works for Windows Mobile 6.5 and Windows Mobile 7, and it will be launched later this year.

iPhone & app store, killer app or app killer?
Taipei After the long wait, in December 2008, iPhone finally officially launched in Taiwan and in just one month, iPhone takes up 2.2% handset market share in Taiwan, becomes the sixth most popular handset in Taiwan, based on the report of Digitimes. And with the popularity of iPhone, iPhone apps become a new income source for developers, also a brand new way for companies to promote their business, products and services. But it’s no secret that iPhone app developers are less than happy with the App Store. The criteria for approval of iPhone apps is arcane and approval can take anywhere from a couple of days to months. And then there is how to price your app right, how to promote your app… it is a lot of work and seems never ends. Is it killing the creativity for app developers? Or it opens a new door for developers?

Mobile TV 2.0 - Consumer Generated Media
Taipei In 1968, American Artist Andy Warhol made this statement “ In the future, everyone will be world-famous for 15 minutes”. After 40 years, this has become true with the new technologies and medias. Today almost every mobile phone comes with camera, and the booming of new media like YouTube and i’m TV definitely encourages users to create their own video and share. With the rapid growth of Blogs and Vlogs, there are interactive billboards to be placed, virtual product placement strategies to be executed, scripts to be written, friends to be made, avatars to be dressed, fed and equipped, and virtual stores to be opened. Today the hottest celebrity is no one else but the consumer himself. The landscape of tectonic plate of media industry has shifted and the impact on business is more then just fad.
For the 12th MobileMonday event, we invite i’m TV, one of the best examples of “Youniversal Branding”, to share with us about their experience from traditional media to digital media (both web and mobile), and how they see the future for digital media growth. And also Ericsson will demonstrate their new solution“MeOnTV”on how consumers can use their mobile phone and broadcast live to TV and the web. Special thanks to Ericsson for sponsoring the food and beverage for this event!!

Mobile Social Networks — tomorrow’s cash cow or just a one-trick pony?
Taipei Today’s active social networking members represent more than one-third of the total
worldwide Internet user base, for a figure of 530m members worldwide. As social networking develops as an industry, mobility will play a vital role in shaping the future. There are strong forces bringing SNSs and mobility together, including the industry wide trend toward presence and personalization. The ability of members to access a social networking site from anywhere will enhance the utility of the SNS and thus boost the amount of advertising revenue that it can generate. For mobile operators, SNS could greatly increase mobile data usage, which has so far been lackluster in most markets, and open the door to new revenue streams from subscription fees or advertising. To that end, a broad range of handset suppliers, network equipment providers and software developers have been making progress in addressing technical obstacles to mobile social networking — such as the need for bandwidth, devices and browsers.
For this month’s MobileMonday Taipei event, we are going to talk about social networking going mobile, we have invited four representatives from social networking site, microblog site, mobile-only community managing company and telecom operator to have a panel discussion about mobile social networking.

Please, No iPhone in Taiwan!!! - How GUI is trapping your customers.
Taipei Recently, Google showed off a “revitalized” version of Android, which is starting to look a little (more) like the iPhone. The "refreshed" Android SDK has a User Interface that features "smooth, animated transitions." Sounds familiar?
Both Apple’s iPhone and Google’s Android OS focus on the User Interface to provide a unique - and addictive - user experience. Indeed, most people are loyal to a U.I. (or “trapped” in a U.I.) once they have adopted it. Today a link between the phone itself and the User, the U.I. is likely to become the link between a service offer and the User (think iTunes, Gmail, etc.).
