GSM has over 86% market share 1.7 million new GSM subs every day


India and China keep piling up new GSM subscriptions.

GSM-network operator gathered an average of 1.67 million new subscriptions in Q3 of this year, says The GSM/3G Network Update based on data provided by Informa Telecoms & Media.

In the third quarter the number of GSM (including EDGE, WCDMA-HSPA) subscriptions grew globally to 2.686 billion. China and India together added over 103 million GSM subscriptions January – September 2007

Despite the growth of cdma2001 subscriptions, GSM has over 86 percent market share of all mobile systems, 2.2 percent increase since the end of 2006.

The data also shows 65 million GSM subscriptions growth in Latin America and Caribbean region January – September 2007. The region total reached 276 million.

The number of WCDMA 3G subscriptions has passed 158 million mark with 6.6 million average monthly growth.

WCDMA subscriptions grew 60 percent January – September 2007.
