MII licences Finnish testing suite China to certify all smartphones

Nokia's smartphones for Chinese markets will need to certified, too.

Futuremark Corporation, a Finland-based benchmarkin company, announced today a long term cooperative partnership with the Telecommunication Software Test Center of China’s Ministry of Information Industry.

Futuremark will provide its full collection of six current and in-development handheld testing tools to the TSTC for creation of the first, state sanctioned handheld performance certification testing service. This testing service will improve mobile phone quality in China market.

The Telecommunication Software Test Center (TSTC) of China Academy of Telecommunication Research is the only professional mobile phone testing institution designated by the Ministry of Information Industry.

The launch of the testing service demonstrates that the Chinese market pays great attention to the quality of mobiles phones sold in China, and to the determination of established standards designed to improve the quality of mobile phones.

Certified devices released into the market will be able to provide end-users with better levels of performance as required for next generation multimedia and gaming applications, while mobile vendors will receive more support from carriers and application developers after passing the mobile phone performance testing.

Futuremark Corporation heralds this agreement as both an endorsement of the validity of their handheld benchmarking tools and as a major success in their ongoing China business initiatives. By partnering with the TSTC,

Tero Sarkkinen, CEO of Futuremark, expects that the TSTC contract will bring the company loads of new customers.

“We anticipate that the 80+Chinese mobile manufacturers will want to use our tools to test their devices before TSTC certification.”

Futuremark estimates that there are thousands of new mobile devices introducted to the Chinese market every year from all around the world.

All the major mobile phone manufacturers already use Futuremark's services.

Futuremark will license the TSTC all current handheld testing tools including 3DMarkMobile ES 1.1, 3DMarkMobile ES 2.0, SimulationMark ES 2.0, VGMark 1.0, SPMarkJava JSR 184 and SPMark for Symbian OS v9, as well as tools which are in either in development today or on Futuremark’s forward looking product roadmap.

"We anticipate that this agreement with the MII and TSTC will serve as a corporate milestone for Futuremark, enabling our tools to gain traction in the booming Chinese mobile marketplace, while ensuring that the devices offered to that market will provide better multimedia and gaming performance,” said Petri Talala, Futuremark’s Vice President of Mobile Business.
