Ebone, Bouygues Telecom sign mobile data deal

Ebone's pan-European IP network signed an agreement with Bouygues Telecom, one of France's leading mobile telecommunications operators, to provide its GPRS subscribers access to the Internet. Bouygues Telecom, which anticipated the growth of the IP based traffic and potential revenue streams that these new services could offer, wanted Ebone because of the quality of its European network and network connection to the US. Ebone's IP services were also selected for the migration of its web portal, http://www.6sens.com which enables Bouygues Telecom users to customise their mobile phones to receive additional mobile data services such as real-time information, news, financial information and weather forecasts. Ebone operates Europe's original and most extensive IP backbone network. Bouygues Telecom started using Ebone's IP transit services to improve its Internet access since August 2000. Ebone's dedicated ``GRX'' service enables mobile service providers to provide their customers with fast and reliable mobile data services all over the world. The service provides GPRS handsets access to different IP based services while they are roaming. Through a single connection to the Ebone network from anywhere in Europe, mobile services providers can deliver mobile data services to users' mobile device anywhere in Europe and the rest of the world. Ebone is a division of Global TeleSystems, with operations in 69 European cities plus the United States. Operating headquarters are in London.
