Nokia background flavors the free MVNO Free call operator Blyk to use Orange’s network
Orange and Blyk today announced an MVNO deal that will see Blyk customers using the Orange network to make calls, send messages and access the mobile internet. The two companies have entered into a wholesale agreement regarding the transportation of voice and data traffic across the Orange network.
Blyk is the first pan-European ad-funded mobile network. It will offer customers free mobile phone calls and texts in return for receiving advertising on their mobile handsets.
Major brands, including Buena Vista, Coca-Cola, I-play Mobile Gaming, L’Oreal Paris, StepStone and Yell.com mobile have confirmed that they will be among the first advertisers to use the Blyk network when it launches in the UK this summer.
Pekka Ala-Pietilä, Co-founder and CEO of Blyk, said: “The partnership with Orange ensures that we will deliver the highest level of service and quality of experience that advertisers and our members expect.”
NSN
Blyk’s founders Nokia background seems to flavor the infrastructure build-up. The operator has chosen Nokia Siemens Networks to supply, build and host its core network. In its first-ever full mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) hosting arrangement, Nokia Siemens Networks will be hosting the entire operation of Blyk’s core network, allowing Blyk to rely on Nokia Siemens Networks’ strong technology and operations experience, while avoiding infrastructure investments of its own. The contract was initially signed by Nokia.
TietoEnator
TietoEnator, a software and service provider with deep relationship with Nokia, provides Blyk with an end-to-end BSS (Business Support Systems) solution, related web portals and infrastructure services. “By establishing a flexible, scalable, cost-efficient IT infrastructure partnership, Blyk is able to fulfil its vision of providing its customers with free communications, funded by mobile advertising,” says TietoEnator’s press release.
The services and solutions are provided by TietoEnator MVNE (Mobile Virtual Network Enabler) Service Centre, focusing on development, integration, application management and support services. The end-to-end delivery combines the competencies and services from TietoEnator's Telecom & Media, Processing & Network and Digital Innovations Business Areas.
Mermit Business Applications Oy will develop and build advertising and CRM systems. Nokia is one of Mermit’s many customers.
