Bypass network roaming issues Fromdistance launches SMS service for web services
Jouko Vierumäki speaking at MobileMonday Helsinki.
Fromdistance has launched FromSMS, a new type of bidirectional SMS service for web applications. Any web developer can use FromSMS as a two-way SMS interface for any web service.
FromSMS consists of FromSMS Server and FromSMS Client. FromSMS Server is hosted by Fromdistance; FromSMS Client is a Nokia S60 compatible application which can be downloaded free of charge.
As FromSMS lets web developers use their own devices as SMS terminals, issues with SMS roaming are virtually eliminated. Equally important, the only cost for sending messages from web application are the charges of the mobile operator the developer has chosen – Fromdistance offers open message sending interface for free.
“FromSMS service was inspired by our own needs. Having customers in many countries and end users all over the world, we often encountered issues with SMS roaming, character encoding and restrictions of so called short numbers. As many web applications can benefit from SMS messaging interface, we decided to make FromSMS available for everybody”, says Jouko Vierumäki, CEO of Fromdistance. “The existing services on the market are suitable for sending of bulk SMS messages and for premium-priced SMS services, but many web applications don’t have those kinds of needs”, he continues.
FromSMS allows two-way SMS messaging between web service and its mobile users; it is also possible to use several mobile terminals in pool to increase reliability and improve performance.
