The winner hails from Estonia Helsinki sends Mobile Reporter to Barcelona Peer Awards
MobileMonday Helsinki selected Fromdistance Ltd and its MCR (Mobile Citizen Reporter) service as its candidate for the MobileMonday Barcelona Peers Awards competition. The winner was chosen from three finalists on the January 21 event.
A four member panel made its unanimous selection after a seven minute presentations by Fromdistance, Floobs and BookIT Finland.
“Winning in Helsinki, at the original MobileMonday, feels especially valuable. We are proud to represent both Finland and Estonia on February 11 in Barcelona,” said Jouko Vierumäki, the founder and CEO Fromdistance. Vierumäki is a Finn but his company headquarters are in Tallinn and the company is registered in Estonia.
“The Fromdistance solution is innovative while at the same time proven both technically and as a business model. It covers the whole value chain from a citizen reporter to publisher or publishers,” commented the cahier of the panel Vesku Paananen, one of the original organizers of MobileMonday movement.
Mobile Citizen Reporter provides one access point for all those who want to send mobile videos to publishers. The service takes in all video formats and reformats them to suit the publisher’s demands. It also facilitates the copyright agreement between the citizen and the publisher and avoids troublesome rights disagreements afterwards.
Since 2004 Fromdistance's 10 professionals have worked on solutions for mobile device management and mobile video reporting. The two solutions have converged into a solution for media companies and their reporters.
Fromdistance's customers for the solution include: RTL, national broadcasting company in Germany; MTV3, number 1 commercial TV channel in Finland; Handelsblatt, the biggest financial newspaper in Germany; Helsingin Sanomat, the biggest newspaper in Finland; YLE, the national broadcasting company in Finland; RP Online, a major web portal in Germany; Aller publications, Finland, a leading weekly magazine publisher in Finland; and Aktivist, a leading city magazine in Poland
