Nokia fourth after Motorola Koreans battle for CDMA phone leadership
Korean LG Electronics has, for the first time, captured the number one position in the global CDMA phone market in the third quarter of 2003, according to data from market research firm Strategy Analytics. LGE passed another Korean manufacturer Samsung Electronics.
According to the Strategy Analytics data, LGE shipped six million CDMA handsets in the third quarter, compared with 5.1 million units shipped by Samsung, reported Taiwanese internet publication Digitimes.
Nokia was able to grow its market share six percentage points to 17 percent from the second quarter. Nokia shipped 3.3 million phones in the Q3, a full million more than in the Q2. During the Q3 2002 Nokia’s shipments were 2.2 million.
