Nero announces VoIP for Windows phones Nero Sipps mobility
Nero, specialist in digital media technology, announced its first product for mobile terminals with the release of Nero Sipps Mobile at CeBIT 2006. The application works on Windows mobile-based phones.
With the expansion of its VoIP portfolio beyond the desktop-based Nero Sipps, Nero Sipps Essentials, and Nero Sipps VoIP Server packages, Nero will now be able to target mobile terminals with Nero Sipps Mobile.
“Whether in the context of WLAN zones in hotel lobbies, hotspots in cafés or wireless Internet connections at home, Nero Sipps Mobile will at last put phone calls via mobile terminals within everyone’s means,” the company press release says.
Nero says that calls with other VoIP subscribers will be free, while calls to the worldwide fixed or mobile network will be possible at affordable rates without the subscription or cell phone contract.
Company is planning to port its application to the Symbian operating system. The first version of the mobile software telephone offers all the usual telephony functions, an address book with direct dialing, lists of dialed numbers and missed calls as well as personalized ring tones.
A server-based address book, a simple chat option, and a facility for creating and managing buddy lists will be added shortly. Nero Sipps Mobile supports Windows 2003 Mobile and Windows 2005 Mobile.
In a CeBIT showcase, Nero demonstrated the possibility of GSM/WLAN roaming using Nero Sipps Mobile. This technology will enable the user to save more costs in future by allowing them to receive their calls via VoIP instead of GSM where an Internet connection is available. The user can be reached under their conventional cell phone number in both networks.
