Demonstration on World Telecom day Nokia and Guangdong mobile trial PoC-service

Guangdong MCC demonstrated Nokia's Push to talk over Cellular or PoC technology to the public at World Telecom Day on May 17. Following the initial service trials, Guangdong MCC will undertake market trials, where its lead customers will trial push to talk with Nokia terminals over Nokia PoC infrastructure. Guangdong MCC intends to launch push to talk commercially in the second half of this year. "Nokia's world-leading PoC technology has confirmed the strong market potential of this service. We believe push to talk will enrich the way people communicate, and will be attractive both to the enterprise and the mass market," says Li Gang, General Manager of Guangdong MCC. Guangdong MCC serves over 30 million mobile subscribers in southern China's Guangdong province. Nokia's carrier grade Push to talk over Cellular solution provides competitive performance, a full feature set, and a smooth network software upgrade path to the upcoming Open Mobile Alliance (OMA) standard. With more than 30 operator trials ongoing, and five public commercial contracts, Nokia is leading the market for PoC. Nokia launched the world's first push to talk capable GSM phone, the Nokia 5140, in November 2003. During 2004, Nokia will introduce a full range of push to talk capable GSM phones, including Symbian OS based smart phones. From 2005 onwards, push to talk will become available for virtually all Nokia GPRS/WCDMA phones.
