Almost traditional Chinese stylus Nokia announces Chinese touchscreen phone

In an event held the last day of 2008 in Nanjing Nokia unveiled a new pen-input phone. The Nokia 6208c caters to a number of different customers, specifically those in China.

This is the first Nokia touchscreen-equipped feature phone, running Series 40 user interface. Despite the high quality camera and large screen, the new phone is not a 3G device but works only in GSM-EDGE networks.

The touch screen on the 6208c is optimized to write Chinese characters and messages in the most natural way, with a pen. The design of the stylus, attached to the back of the phone, is inspired by bamboo slips and works perfectly with the large color display which is reminiscent of an ink stone, another element from traditional Chinese art and culture, Nokia explained.

The device features a number of different languages and characters.

6208c has a 3.2 megapixel camera, dual LED flash and 4x digital zoom, The handset also supports optional microSD cards up to 8GB and standard 3.5mm headphone jack. The physical measuremens are 109.8×49.3×13.3 mm, weight: 120.1 grams. The Nokia 6208c is expected to start shipping in select markets in the first half of 2009.
