Lost the base station deal Nokia builds the Hutchison 3G HK core network

Hutchison 3G HK Limited has been working with Nokia for the deployment of core network equipment for its third generation WCDMA-based network, the Nokia press release states. There is no mention in the release about the radio access network that Nokia evidently lost to Siemens and NEC last summer. Neither Nokia nor Hutchison confirmed or denied the press reports that 700 Nokia 3g base stations had to dismantled. The core network equipment supplied by Nokia consists of both circuit and packet core networks, as well as the Nokia NetAct System for network management. Hutchison 3G HK WCDMA-network has been delayed and now there is no date for commercial launch. News media made much of the fact that the operator switched the radio access network supplier just two months before the August launch. The Nokia press release states that with the construction of its 3G network and systems successfully completed, Hutchison 3G HK is undergoing internal trials, gathering feedback to further enhance its service content, as well as international roaming services in preparation for the launch of its 3G services under the "3" brand. Hutchison Telecom is currently the largest mobile operator in Hong Kong and Hutchison 3G HK is one of four Hong Kong operators granted 3G licenses.
