Looking for million widgeteers Nokia mobilizes Web 2.0 world

Nokia is set to capture fast growing Web 2.0 –world. Quietly it has started a new venture called WidSets within Nokia Ventures Organization. The task of this word-by-blog effort is to recruit million registered mobile widgeteers by the end of the year.

  • In the mobile world we are aiming for same kind of share of mind as Yahoo and Apple widgets have in the web, says Kaj HeGe Häggman, business development manager at Nokia Ventures Organization.

Häggman says that WidSets organization is about the same size as other Web 2.0 outfits around ten people.

  • We will face difficult business and earning model decisions next year. For now our task is to make WidSets as popular and possible and learn as much as we can about how people want use mobile widgets.

  • We have been give free hand to grow the service this, Häggman says. He does not have a precise target but confirms that a number of one million registered users is in the right ballpark.

It is very easy to start using WidSets service and the first rss-reader template is very simple to create.

The service was launched on June 6. By the end of the month it got its first expansion that included several new key features: two-way functionality, more to read from the feeds, audio alarms, skin editor for widget creation, more interesting information from the system widget.
