Finland and California-base Ekahau Inc. today announced that Proxim Corporation, has selected the Ekahau Site Survey 2.1 (ESS 2.1) WiFi network planning and verification tool as one of the key components of Proxim's new ORiNOCO Smart Wireless Suite software package.

ESS 2.1 saves time in all phases of Wi-Fi network planning and deployment by combining easy network planning, accurate site survey information with easy to understand visualization and reporting.

"The careful planning of a Wi-Fi network, and verification of the network performance after deployment, are very important steps to ensure the best performance of any Wi-Fi infrastructure" said Lynn Lucas, VP of Marketing, Proxim.

"Ekahau's Wi-Fi planning and site survey software is therefore a perfect fit with the Proxim Wi-Fi product family. The key selection criteria of Ekahau over the competition were the ESS software's RF prediction engine coupled with the powerful ability to collect, analyze, and visualize actual RF performance".

ESS presents a streamlined approach to 802.11a/b/g network design, deployment and verification. It creates visualizations of RF coverage, based on actual RF performance data, say the company.

Unlike other tools that rely solely on theoretical models, with ESS one can perform a quick site survey of an entire facility in a fraction of the time it would take to complete using traditional survey methods, Ekahau says.

A drag-and-drop user interface allows customization of facility floor maps, with factors such as wall materials and locations, access point antenna options and transmit power. Key parameters that ESS captures, analyzes and displays include RSSI (Signal Strength), Interference, SNR (Signal to Noise Ratio), Strongest Access Point(s), Total Access Point Count, Signals at Channel and Data Rates.
