Huawei scores SmarTone launches 3G data card service

Hong Kong mobile operator SmarTone Communications launched on last week its commercial 3G service with a high speed WCDMA/GPRS data card. The Huawei Technologies card connects to a laptop and enables high-speed wireless access to corporate and personal emails, SMS via email, Internet and corporate intranet. PC Connect users can also do 3G roaming in Japan, Germany and Austria. SmarTone will expand its 3G roaming coverage in Italy and Singapore later this month, and Taiwan and other western European countries in early 2005. For countries with no 3G coverage, PC Connect users can access to the service via GPRS roaming, the company said. SmarTone follows 3 Hong Kong in launching 3G services in Hong Kong. The company will roll out consumer services later this month. SmarTone is Huawei’s second 3G customer in Hong Kong. Huawei is also the main 3G network supplier and a shareholder of Sunday Communications.
