Softbank and Yahoo to launch Wireless ADSL in Japan
Softbank said Wednesday it will launch a wireless high-speed Internet access service using the infrastructure of its "Yahoo! BB" ADSL broadband network. Softbank units BB Technologies Corp. and Yahoo Japan, which jointly operate "Yahoo! BB," will offer the new service with a transmission speed of 8.0 mega bits a second for a monthly charge of Y2,280.
Softbank will start a trial service later in April. Details such as the timing of the full launch and the service area haven't been decided, a Softbank spokeswoman said.
Users will be able to access the "Yahoo! BB Mobile " network by inserting LAN cards into their personal computers.
BB Technologies will provide necessary communication infrastructure to run the service, while Yahoo Japan will operate a website to promote subscriptions.
