LBS technology and service for operators Telmap sets up a subsidiary in Espoo
Israel-based Telmap, mobile mapping and navigation technology and service provider, has set up a subsidiary in Finland. Telmap Oy has its offices in Espoo at the Regus KONE Building in Keilasatama.
Telmap has appointed Hannu Järvi to head Telmap Oy, and is recruiting local technical and sales staff. Järvi comes from TeliaSonera. He is a highly experienced telecommunications product and business manager and brings special expertise in location-based services.
Järvi says that he will be recruiting 5-10 people with a year depending how Telmap’s business takes off with its customers, Nordic mobile operators.
Telmap’s Polaris software provides consumers navigation and content services such as traffic and weather data and points of interest listings.
Telmap has offered it white label platform to all Finnish mobile operators. Järvi is hopeful that he’ll be able to close at least one deal in next few weeks.
“Telmap believes that Finland and the entire Nordic region lead in technology innovations for the mobile industry, providing Telmap with exciting opportunities,” said Telmap CEO, Oren Nissim in Helsinki.
“By establishing a local presence, we can better meet the needs of this important region and serve it more effectively.”
“Finland offers an excellent opportunity to Telmap because it has well developed and well functioning mobile networks with national coverage,” Nissim said.
Another reason for choosing Finland is its missing automobile industry.
“In Finland, just like in Israel, cars are imported – without built in navigation equipment. This offers us better opportunities than what we can find on major markets with their own automobile manufacturing. In Germany, for instance, most of the expensive cars come with navigation gear already installed.”
Hannu Järvi will talk about LBS and his company’s technology at November 7 MobileMonday meeting in Helsinki.
