U.S. ITC to investigate patent infringement in Nokia 3G phones

The U.S. International Trade Commission, ITC, voted to start an investigation into alleged patent infringement involving Nokia's 3G handsets. According to the ITC, the investigation is based on a complaint filed last month by InterDigital Communications Corporation, a wireless technology company based in the U.S. The commission will set a target date for completing its investigation within 45 days.

In December 2005, Nokia lost a dispute over royalties owed to InterDigital covered by a license agreement involving 2G handsets. The U.S. Federal Judge confirmed that Nokia must pay the disputed royalties of $232-$252 million plus interest.
