^{1MB can cost 1700 times more} Unlimited monthly GPRS costs EUR 120 in France, EUR 15 in Italy

European GPRS pricing varies greatly by service provider and by country, shows a new report from BroadGroup. While the average price for 10MB of data transfer is EUR 12.80 the monthly flat fees for unlimited data vary from Orange France’s EUR 120 to EUR Italian Wind’s EUR 15. In Finland monthly charges are form EUR 15 to EUR 20, but they include only 100 MB of data. TeliaSonera Finland charges about EUR 1.75 per megabyte after the inclusive 100 MB. So the cost of the second 100 MB is EUR 175, almost ten times more than the first lot. Several operator offer also one megabyte schemes. According to the BroadGroup the average cost for 1 MB by volume is EUR 2.04 where as average pricing per month amounts to EUR 4.36. Pricing for 1MB varies enormously across the service providers who offer this category. Staggeringly, the ratio between the cheapest and most expensive 1MB price in Europe is more than 1,700x. KPN Mobile is the most expensive in this category (Internet Everywhere DataBundel), and mobitel dd of Slovenia the cheapest. More than 30 percent of 1MB service price offerings included in this survey are below EUR 1.00 (exclusive of taxes). In all cases they are offered by service providers in former eastern European countries/Accession States. Based on all service offerings, the average price per 1MB is EUR 2.04 (exclusive of taxes).
