Proof of possesion and credential transport Valimo files over-the-air SIM card credential patent

Valimo Wireless has filed two mobile signature and authentication related patents, the company stated Friday. According to CTO Mikko Virtanen, the significance of the technology is that it allows authentication credentials to be added to SIM cards even after they’ve left the factory.

The first patent concerns proof of possession for a specific SIM card. The second patent improves security of the credential transport when faced with limited bandwidth.

“The methods covered in these patents simplify credential creation and user registration, while increasing security and usability. Another important feature of this technology is that SIM cards no longer need credentials created at the factory. Now, this can be done over-the-air, after distribution to the mobile subscribers,” Virtanen said in a press release.

Helsinki-based Valimo Wireless delivers identity management and authentication software solutions to mobile operators, corporate customers and financial institutions.
