[BUSINESS]

Developing compelling apps by BlackBerry

We are proud to announce BlackBerry (www.blackberry.com) as our very first and main sponsor at the re-launch of MobileMonday Bangkok. Johan Kremer, RIM’s Head of Alliances for South-East and Sarim Aziz, RIM’s APAC Head of Developer Relations are flying in from Singapore especially for the event.

With other smartphone stores having a significant slice of the mobile phone fruit pie, Johan and Sarim will speak about RIM’s exciting new BlackBerry products which could produce a seismic shift in the marketplace. Research In Motion (RIM, www.rim.com ) is the company behind the innovative and award-winning BlackBerry product line. RIM has just released the BlackBerry Playbook tablet and the next generation of BlackBerry devices is in the pipeline.

Digital publishing and monetizing your digital content

Are you reading your favorite magazine in print or on your iPad? If it’s sexy men’s magazine Maxim, we’re guessing like thousands of other readers in Thailand, you’ve taken out a digital subscription.

Dr. Polapat Udomphol, business development director of IT Works (www.itworks.co.th), will talk about the digitalization of the publishing industry and how publishers can generate extra advertising revenue in the process.

Software company IT Works developed an app called “Ookbee” (from “e-book”, www.ookbee.com) which has quickly become Thailand’s largest and most popular digital platform for magazines. The company currently has over 100 titles in their portfolio including Men’s Health, OK! and Seventeen. Ookbee works on iPad, iPhone and Android devices.

[START-UP]

What you need to know to be a successful startup

Thomas Kjeldgaard is the cofounder of Pagemodo (www.pagemodo.com), a successful start-up from Denmark launched in July last year. Pagemodo is an online tool which enables businesses and organizations to custom-design their own professional Facebook page without the need for design or technical skills.

To date, Pagemodo has over 3.2 million active users on Facebook per month. The company was recently acquired by Webs.com (www.webs.com) and most of the development now takes place in Washington DC, USA.

In his presentation Thomas will talk about what it takes to be an entrepreneur – the pros and cons, experiences and tips from Pagemodo’s startup phase as well as what’s next for the company.
