$100,000 ‘App My State’ Special MoMoMelb Event – Monday Feb 15th, 6:00pm @ Horse Bazaar
Posted on: February 15, 2010 – Filed under: Melbourne
Prizes worth $100,000 are up for grabs through the Victorian Government for app developers to do cool stuff with Victorian Government / public sector data through their ‘App My State’ initiative. As a mobile app developer your challenge, should you accept, is to create ways for residents, visitors, businesses and government to access and use this data in helpful ways. See the press release here.
The continued releasing of publicly-owned content such as these data sets is a big and innovative step by the Victorian Government. Of additional (and none-too-insignificant) interest is that the data is being released under a Creative Commons licence (which effectively means you’ll be able to use the data for your own means – as long as you adhere to the parameters laid-down). This is a move us MoMoers congratulate and we can all now watch the other Australian Governments play catch-up! More on that on the night…
So, *this* Monday arvo, the Mobile Monday Melbourne crew are pleased to welcome back Ian Stewart from the Office Premier of Victoria and introduce Luella Charles from DIIRD to discuss the ‘App My State’ initiative in more detail, explain how you could win your share of the $100,000 prizes and they’ll be seeking some advice from us about the best way for mobile apps to be registered into the comp. This initiative has yet to be formally launched, so it’s a bit of a MoMoMelb exclusive. We’re pleased to also host Founder and Editor of Anthill Online, the ever-debonair James Tuckerman to share some of his thoughts and help us ask clever questions.
Above and beyond that, come along and reacquaint with the MoMoMelb community. No doubt it’s going to be a huge year ahead.
Same bat time, same bat channel…
