MoMo Edinburgh All the buzz from MWC in Barcelona

A little bit short notice I am afraid, but it has been a while since the last event so I thought it was important we should have one! Please do try to fit it into your diary if at all possible – should be a good one.

This month will be a joint event with the Informatics Ventures Mobile Apps Group, and as such will follow their normal formula of an evening event, with beer and pizza to keep us going, in the wonderful Inspace.

There will be no charge to attend but advance registration is required via eventbrite:

The theme will be a series of three short reflections on what we heard, saw, and achieved at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona a fortnight ago, taken with a variety of interesting twists:

Simon Vansintjan of Tigatag will provide his impressions of a first visit to MWC from a new startup’s point of view. In particular I am keen to hear how they blagged their way into the invite-only Qualcomm party!

Alisdair Gunn of Interactive Scotland, a veteran of 5 visits to MWC and many more in the industry, will provide the somewhat m ore worldly-wise (and perhaps cynical?) point of view. He will provide his take on who the new players are, and what the markets expect and are looking for.

My own particular focus this year (my 8th visit – eek!) was to review the changes to the landscape of mobile platforms driven by announcements leading up to and during MWC with a view to what our support priorities at Mobile Acuity should be going forward.

This is of course a topic which makes for strong opinions, and thus where I am guaranteed to be wrong from someone’s point of at almost every stage. I certainly don’t plan to shy away from that, and will have a sheet of Android stickers I managed to sweet talk out of a Google PR lady available for all right thinking people present ;->!

Each talk will be fairly short (20 minutes or so), and interaction and discussion will be encouraged.

Look forward to seeing folks a week on Monday!
