Mobile Monday Richmond
The next Richmond Mobile Monday event on December 5th from 5:30pm to 7:30pm will feature two speakers:
Cherian Abraham, Director of Mobile – Strategy & Products at Data Concepts, a Richmond based Technology Consulting firm and Principal Analyst and Co-Founder at DROP LABS, a mobile commerce think tank will present “2012 – The Year of the Mobile Wallet?”.
With market penetration for smartphones expected to reach 43% in US by end of 2011, it is inevitable that the payment form factor will shift to mobile from plastic eventually. The opportunities created as a result of significant shifts in customer behavior brought on by smartphone ubiquity is expected to create a $1.3 Trillion local commerce market and numerous opportunities to re-invent today’s clunky retail checkout experience. Closing the loop by enabling retail merchants to track offer redemptions, loyalty points, check-ins, and payments in their Point-Of-Sale systems was always the holy grail in local commerce. To answer that call, over 70 mobile commerce initiatives mushroom the landscape today, from stakeholders that include entrenched financial institutions as well as disruptive startups that attempt to create the best value proposition and ultimately own the customer. However this crowded field is also indicative of a fragmented ecosystem and conflicting schools of thought on how to close the loop for merchants. And whoever emerges as the market leader also has to shoulder the responsibility in facilitating an open standard that will allow both startups and existing stakeholders to continually innovate and thrive.
Edwin Huertas, President/CEO at SHOCKOE.com, a Richmond-based mobile and web application development company will present “Developing Cross Platform Native Apps with Titanium”.
A general overview about Appcelerator’s mobile development platform: Titanium and how Web developers can start developing mobile apps for iPhone and Android with their current knowledge and skills.
