The Schedule of Event

There is intense growth in the Smartphone segment. Worldwide shipments of Smartphones, is expected to surpass 350 million units, growing at a compound annual growth rate of 20.9% during 2009-2013. This growth in Smartphones has contributed substantially to the increasing adoption of mobile broadband worldwide and is likely to happen in India as well. It is expected that one in every three mobile subscriber will adopt mobile broadband, resulting in about 1 Billion mobile broadband users by the year 2012. With Indian operators committing more than Rs. 100,000 Crore (US$ 20 billion) for 3G and Broadband Wireless Services, the mobile broadband market is set to explode in India.

Associated with all the above developments is the cloud model of computing which provides infinite computing resources in demand, eliminates up-front commitment by users, ability to pay for use of computing resources on a short-term basis as needed, and provides cost efficiencies for the different services not only on computers but also on ubiquitous mobile phones.

Mobile India 2011 will explore developments on the above areas of Smartphones, appstores, and mobile cloud. These developments also throw up challenges both to the operators and broadband content providers. With bandwidth hungry applications clogging their networks, the US operators have started putting restrictions on the applications that can run on their 3G networks. However the “net neutrality” advocates oppose them. Can the ecosystem comprising of content developers, platform providers and network operators come together (with of course assistance from regulators and policy makers) to make it a win-win for all? Moible India 2011 will try to find answers to these questions through three panels comprising of some of the best minds and leaders in the telecom world.

To continue the success of past two years, Mobile India 2011 will also have an Entrepreneur’s Demo Showcase in which firms will exhibit their best-of-breed mobile broadband/ Internet products and services.
