MobileCampLj – A Few Afterthoughts

Morning Schedule by King Molan
The first Slovene MobileCamp took place on Saturday (March 27th) at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering in Ljubljana.
As you probably know MobileCamps are BarCamp style events where the attendees prepare talks for other attendees – no payed or invited speakers, no marketing pitches, just pure knowledge and fun.
We tried to keep the event friendly and entertaining and we feel we succeeded, apart from the minor Wi-Fi hiccups (sorry about that). More than 200 people having the chance to attend more than 25 talks in three separate tracks, with topics suitable for developers, designers and marketeers. The quality of the talks could of course be higher, but since the audience was so wide it was impossible to accommodate everyones wishes. Nevertheless we feel that anyone probably managed to learn something new and managed to meet some new acquaintances that might lead to future business cooperation.
The highlights of the day were most probably 3fs’s official launch of Toshl, SiMobil’s announcement of a development competition with a 20.000€ prize fund, Ivan Brezak Brkan’s presentation about real-time marketing in the mobile space and Matevž Klanjšek’s talk about how to make successful mobile campaigns in small markets. The most popular talks from the developers perspective were Aleš Rosina’s Windows Phone 7 dev workshop, Realy Mobile Computing by Polž and Andreas Jakl’s talk about QT.
The day ended with a smashing Nokia sponsored after party at Egoist where some really good networking took place. We all learned that Hunter S. Thompson’s theory is true:
I have a theory that the truth is never told during the nine-to-five hours.
A big applause goes to Slo-Tech and Kiberpipa for making the event possible with the contributions of Nokia as the golden sponsor, Marand, Telekom Slovenije, MsTech.si and LTFE and Kiberpipa.net that took care of the Wi-Fi network.
