MoMo Toronto – Dec. 5th – Tucows Launching Ting
Posted on: November 18, 2011 – Filed under: Toronto
Ting is a new mobile phone service that Tucows is launching in the US later this year. Its mission is to bring clarity and control to mobile services – and hopefully to save people money along the way.
Why is Tucows launching a mobile phone service? And why in America? Better still, how do they expect to launch a challenger brand in a country where the top three brands have a quarter of a billion subscribers and mega-million dollar marketing budgets?
Joining us to answer these and other questions is Tucows EVP, Products, Ken Schafer. He’ll give us a detailed explanation of their strategy and how they took Ting from conception to launch in less than a year on a shoestring budget.
Ken Schafer, EVP, Products at Tucows
Widely seen as a pioneer of Internet marketing in Canada, Ken has tirelessly promoted the Net as a significant force in business and culture.
Ken conceived and oversaw Sony Music Canada’s early online initiatives. From the first site in 1995, Ken’s team built a global web presence for 25 Canadian artists by pioneering viral and email marketing, rich media and community building long before they had become buzzwords.
In 1996 he co-founded the Association of Internet Marketing & Sales (AIMS), helping it become Canada’s largest organization for Internet decision-makers. In 1997 he co-authored the online portion of the Canadian Marketing Association’s (CMA) Code of Ethics, and also developed and taught the CMA’s 14-week certificate program in E-marketing. Ken founded One Degree, one of Canada’s leading websites for Internet marketing professionals.
As EVP, Products for Tucows he oversees the company’s long-term vision – to make simple, useful services that help people unlock the power of the Internet.
