Rain doesn’t stop MoMoBNE!

Last night’s MoMoBNE meeting was well attended, despite some members arriving rain-soaked due to a Brisbane thunderstorm. The meeting was held at i.lab in Toowong, in Brisbane’s inner west, and featured a couple of informal presentations, a well-thumbed Android G1, and lots of friendly exchanges over beer and snacks.
Peter Allison kicked off proceedings with a brief presentation about the i.lab Incubator, our hosts for the evening. i.lab provides it’s clients with professional, smart-office space and support services, helping companies raise capital, access grants and grow their businesses. In it’s 9th year, i.lab has helped over 95 companies access more than $75 million dollars in capital and grant programs, creating nearly 500 jobs in the process, and is a clear success story for the Queensland Government.
Locatrix Communications CEO Mark White then gave an overview of the recent GSMA Mobile World Congress held in Barcelona, from a look at the venue to some of the major announcements (and stolen mobiles!) featured during the congress.
Finally Dale Rankine from Moket showcased a group of Adobe-related announcements from the MWC, including the Flash Lite 3.1 Distributable Player, the Adobe Mobile Packager, and two programs designed to help mobile developers gain access to funding and distribution for their content: the Flash Lite Developer Challenge, and the Open Screen Fund (run by Adobe and Nokia).
While attendance was less than planned – we expect the rain caused havoc with some transport plans – the meeting was enjoyable and informative. Thanks again to Peter Allison and i.lab for supporting MoMo Brisbane!
The next MoMoBNE event will be held on Monday, April 20th – stay tuned for details.
