MoMo Vienna #10: Web vs. App. And the winner is…

There is hardly another topic that pays more attention in the mobile area than the battle between native app and mobile browser. For that reason together with you we will take up the fight on the next MoMo. All we need is … According to asymco.com more than 60 Apps have been downloaded for every iOS device sold. In other words the iTunes App Store is about to reach 10 billion downloads. A good reason for companies to invest their money in app development. BUT on the other hand comscore.com pointed out that three out of four mobile user favor …

BlackBerry Playbook to run Android apps

A Research in Motion spokesperson was caught on video (uploaded by Mobile Monday Rio) saying that RIM “will also support Android apps when we release the Dalvik engine on top of QNX.” Dalvik is a virtual machine that’s an integral part of the Android OS, and is open source. Earlier this year, Myriad Group announced its Alien Dalvik software, which “enables Android applications to operate on non-Android devices.” So the idea of Android apps running on a BlackBerry Playbook (or any non-Android tablet) aren’t that farfetched. Though this news seemingly came straight from the horses’ mouth, when we spoke to …

MoMo Ann Arbor May 2nd Visual Design for Mobile

photo

A great user interface is essential to acceptance and adoption of any system.  While the rules of great design still apply, the small touch screen adds new constraints that don’t exist on other platforms. During this session, we’ll explore some of the key design principles and how they apply in this environment.  Whether it be color, size, shape, visual cues, icons, metaphors, real-world equivalents, the user has expectations about how an app will work. We’ll also discuss not only how to meet these expectations, but also exceed and even delight the user with design …

MoMo Nairobi with Microsoft: How it went down

On the 21st of February 2011 I was at the *iHub_ for Mobile Monday with Microsoft. I know there are some guys who were not able to make it there and so I decided to do a small write up covering what happened. I arrived at the *iHub_ a bit late so I missed the introductory remarks made by John Wesonga who is part of the Mobile Monday Kenya team. He invited Jessica the *iHub manager to the floor. Jessica talked briefly about the *iHub and then introduced mLab and the mLab team which is comprised of John and Bernard …
